The October 2021 Business Brew featured Matthew Mitchel from Futures Research talking about ‘how to build a vision that matters and works.’ Matthew developed a research process that strategically collects ideas about specific futures that groups and organizations use to build visions, plans, and assessments. His goal is to improve the way people think about and pursue the future.
As opposed to a mission statement, thinking about a vision helps organizations shape future conditions through clear, creative, and intentional efforts to define the “what, why, and how” of the future. The visioning method builds an insider’s perspective of a future socio-cultural system grounded in the words, thoughts, insights, motivations, and aspirations of those who have a stake in that system’s future.
